The Presence Or Absence of Joy

If we can learn what causes us to be joyful and what takes away our joy we may be better able to be joyful. The first thing to understand is that GOD IS THE SOURCE OF JOY AND JOY IS THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Acts 2:28: Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

Galatians 5:22a: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, . . .

Ephesians 5:18: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

If we have no joy we are probably not filled with the Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:16: Rejoice evermore.

Psalms 98:4: Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

Being filled with the Spirit, rejoicing and making a joyful noise unto the Lord are actually commands that ought to be obeyed.

Psalms 16:11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Unbelievers are never at God*s right hand and believers dabbling in sin are not living like they are at His right hand. His right hand is a symbol of His power and righteous activity.

Isaiah 51:11: Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.

Rejoicing ought to be a characteristic of the redeemed of all ages and dispensations.

John 16:24: Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

If we have no joy, we are probably not praying and having our prayers answered.

John 15:11: These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

1 John 1:4: And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

1 Peter 1:8: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

If we are not joyful we are probably not studying the Bible and we probably lack faith.

2 John 1:12: Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
